Seattle Humane had an incredible year of adoptions with 6,191 dogs, cats and critters adopted into loving homes and 162 pets returned to their owner.
“We save lives and help complete families, but we don’t do it alone,” Seattle Humane CEO David Loewe said. “Our 1,800 volunteers donated 206,000 hours to help pets in need in 2014. We simply couldn't do our work without their incredible support. Our community stands beside us every step of the way and we are so grateful.”

Additional highlights from 2014 include:

•With the help of visiting veterinary students from Washington State Univeristy, 8,401 surgical procedures were performed at Seattle Humane Society’s veterinary clinic in 2014, including 2,708 pets spayed and neutered through our programs for low-income families in our community. This program is critical to Seattle Humane Society’s leadership efforts to reduce pet homelessness and suffering.
•5,419 pets at the shelter received foster care in the homes of nearly 700 volunteer foster parents. They tended to underage puppies and kittens who required round-the-clock bottle feedings; senior pets who needed a break from shelter life; and pets recovering from surgery.

The Seattle Humane Society is setting goals to help even more pets in need and to save more lives in 2015, Loewe said.

“The animals are counting on us, the community depends on us, and we will be there for them in the year to come,” he said.
