FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: February 4, 2011

Hop on down to the Seattle Humane Society where we’re celebrating “Adopt a Rescued Rabbit Month” throughout February. That’s right - in addition to great dogs and cats, Seattle Humane also has a variety of adorable bunnies ready for homes of their own.

Every bunny at Seattle Humane has been spayed or neutered and will go home with a certificate for an examination by a King County veterinarian. In addition, all of our rabbits are microchipped and their adoption includes 30 days of pre-paid pet health insurance to help ensure long-lasting companionship between you and your new best friend.

Rabbits make wonderful household pets. They’re affectionate, playful, social, and can even learn tricks! Bunny care fits into most work schedules as they are most active in the mornings and evenings and sleep through the day and night. Bunnies require a responsible owner who will provide them with a special diet and sensitivity to their bunny-specific needs. In return for your love and care, you’ll be rewarded with a bounty of bunny love!

More Fun Bunny Facts:

• Rabbits express happiness by jumping, twisting and turning in the air. This happy dance is called a “bink.”
• Rabbits are not rodents. They actually belong to an order of animals called lagomorphs.
• A well-cared-for rabbit can live 12 to 15 years.
• When a rabbit shifts its nose up and down, it is called “nose blinking.”
• Rabbits can be trained and there are even agility competitions for bunnies.
• Rabbits have approximately 17,000 taste buds – almost twice the amount found in humans!

Learn more on our Rabbit Page and see if they’re the right pet for you or visit us in person at the Seattle Humane Society in Bellevue - where the very best bunnies can’t wait to meet you!
